Interactive Screen

PROBLEM

The 950 Building at ArtCenter College of Design is widely recognized for its striking industrial aesthetic. However, the heavy, industrial atmosphere can also feel imposing. The scale, materiality, and rigidity of the environment contribute to a sense of pressure and constraint, creating an underlying feeling of stress for students and faculty who work there over extended periods.

SOLUTION

Install an interactive hallway screen that invites passersby to interact with gentle, nature-inspired colors and visuals to soften the surrounding environment.

VISUAL ELEMENTS

The island is composed of words symbolizing nature, freedom, and happiness. As students pass by, the camera captures their movement, shifting the screen’s perspective from an insect’s view within the flowers to a bird’s-eye view of the island, offering glimpses into the words embedded in each flower and transforming the school space into a warm vessel of perception.
